About this expedition
The journey from Kathgodam to Chandrashila passes through some of the most scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand, including Ranikhet, Mandal, Chopta, and Tungnath. Starting from Kathgodam at an altitude of around 554 metres, the route gradually climbs to Ranikhet at about 1,869 metres, Mandal at approximately 1,500 metres, and then to Chopta at around 2,680 metres. From Chopta, a trek leads to Tungnath Temple, situated at approximately 3,680 metres, followed by a steeper climb to Chandrashila Peak, which stands at around 4,000 metres (13,123 feet). Chandrashila offers spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges and is the highest point of this journey.
